We've all had them, the brick walls that make genealogy both challenging and rewarding (assuming we can crack them).
This is a brick wall that is not even connected to my own family; it is on my husband's side - the Scandinavian side that is linked to his father.
Gerda Mortensen was my husband's father's Aunt, and thus, my husband's Great-Aunt. My husband even recalls having met her at a family function here in Canada, some time back in the 1970s.
You would think that there would be lots of information to share about her, but for some reason, the Danes in this case are very tight-lipped. In fact, they don't seem to want to know anything at all about their family history, but I do!
Gerda is a mystery, one that I've been trying to solve for a few years now, and I can tell you that I won't give up until I do.
